MARION MEN PUBLISH BOOK ON CEMETERIES

Two Marion men have published the first in a series of volumes on Smyth County cemeteries.

Mack H. Sturgill and his nephew, Kenneth L. Sturgill, completed a 270-page indexed book covering 55 historic, church and family cemeteries located on the South, Middle and North Forks of the Holston River.

Copies are available for $15 at the Smyth County courthouse and Dominion Bank in Marion, or from the Sturgills.

More than 6,400 names in the volume give a perspective on family histories from pioneer days to the present. "In many cases," Mack Sturgill said, "this may be the only extant record of several early settlers whose names have never been recorded in official documents." - Southwest bureau
