OBIT RICE, VIRGIL ELVIN
RICE, Virgil Elvin, 84, of Bedford, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 1993, at
his residence. His resided at 612 Longwood Avenue. He was also a resident of
the Elks National Home. He was born August 23, 1908 in Columbia, Missouri, a
son of the late Palmer Rice and Frankie Telljohn Rice. He was a retired
employee of Douglas Air Force Base, California, and E. W. Stevens Printing. He
was a member of the Moose Lodge, Modern Woodmen of America, the B. P. O. E.,
an Exaulted Ruler of the Columbia Elks, a member of the Protective Order of
the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, and was a member of the Main Street United
Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Clarice Torrence Rice; a sister,
Una R. Thomas, Flat River, Missouri; a niece, Carolyn Elder, Canoga Park,
Calif., a great-niece, Jerilee Bennett, Colorado Springs, Colo., two
great-nephews, Dane Bennett, St. Louis, Missouri; Kenny Elder, Canoga Park,
Calif. A memorial service and Elks Service will be conducted Friday, June 4,
1993 at 2 p.m. from the Main Street United Methodist Church by Dr. Carl H.
Douglass Jr., and the officers of the Elks National Home. Interment will
follow in the Elks National Home Cemetery. The family will receive friends
Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home and requests that in lieu of
flowers, memorials be made to the Main Street Methodist Church Building Fund.
