NEED A JOB? NASA WANTS SPACE CADETS

If your job search has stalled after scouring every corner of the Earth, what about trying outer space?

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has announced it is accepting applications for astronaut positions, both mission specialists and pilots.

Aspiring pilots should have some experience flying jets or experimental aircraft, according to a NASA news release. Would-be mission specialists should have a background in science or engineering.

Neither position requires previous space-exploration experience. There are 20 to 25 open slots. The total program includes about 100 astronauts who are called on to fly space shuttle missions.

Astronauts make between $50,000 and $80,000 yearly.

Applications will be accepted until July 1. Then, after a six-month screening process including interviews and medical evaluations, applicants will be selected in the spring of 1994.

For an application package, write to: NASA Johnson Space Center, Attn: AHX Astronaut Selection Office, Houston, Texas, 77058.
