BRIDGE HEARING IS TUESDAY

The Virginia Department of Transportation and the town of Pembroke will hold a public hearing on Tuesday to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the location and design of a new bridge to be built where Virginia 623 crosses the New River south of town.

The project, which has been delayed by controversy over the fate of the old bridge it replaces, is scheduled to advertise for contractors in April of next year. Its estimated date for completion is December 1995.

The hearing will begin at 7 p.m. in the Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department's activity building. An informal meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. for interested people to review plans and consult with Transportation Department representatives.
