OBIT RADFORD, JOHN E. ("HANK")

RADFORD, John E. ("Hank"), 78, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, June 1, 1993, at his home. He was born in Franklin County, Virginia on July 11, 1914, to the late Daniel Green and Frances Elizabeth Gillispie Radford. Mr. Radford was a prominent Blacksburg Merchant, founder and co-owner of Radford Bros. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Blacksburg Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of Blacksburg Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Edith Simms Radford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and David Gruber, Gloria and Byron Hilton; one son, John S. Radford, all of Blacksburg; four sisters, Dorothy Richards, Ferrum, Ethel Cox, Fairfield, Naomi Chandler, Waveland, MS, Ann Akers, Salem; one brother, James M. Radford, Blacksburg; six grandchildren, David Tucker, Valerie Rasnake, Nicole Woo, Justin Woo, John W. Radford, Keith Gruber; three great-grandchildren, Corey Tucker, Tucker Rasnake, and Patrick Rasnake. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Blacksburg Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1818, Memphis, Tenn. 38101-9903 or The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 446, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
