BLEVINS NAMED COACH AT SHAWSVILLE

Mike Blevins has been appointed to succeed Jerry Cannaday as head football coach at Shawsville.

Blevins had been defensive coordinator at Shawsville under Cannaday for two years. Cannaday retired from coaching during the winter to concentrate on his duties as the school's athletic director.

Blevins was a player on some of the strong Group A playoff teams at Chilhowie in the early 1980s. He has been Shawsville's wrestling coach for two years and this season his team won the Mountain Empire District title. He also was the Mountain Empire's coach of the year for 1993.

Blevins spent two years at Chilhowie as a football and wrestling assistant, and one year at Northwood as a football assistant and head wrestling coach. Blevins is a graduate of Emory & Henry.
