REPORTED EARNINGS

Nashville, Tenn.-based Shoney's Inc. on Thursday reported record revenues for the second quarter and a 23 percent increase in earnings per share for the first two quarters of fiscal 1993.

Revenues for the 28 weeks ending May 9 were up 5 percent, from $554.1 million to $580.4 million. Comparable-restaurant sales for the first two quarters declined 0.7 percent. Pretax income was up 22 percent and net income rose 19 percent, from $22.9 million to $27.2 million. Earnings per share for the first two quarters were up 23 percent to 64 cents, compared with 52 cents for the 1992 period.

Revenues for the second quarter were up 7 percent, to $262.8 million from $256.6 million in the 1992 quarter. Comparable-restaurant sales declined 3.1 percent. Net income increased 9 percent to $15.1 million from $13.9 million. Earnings per share for the quarter were up 13 percent to 35 cents, compared with 31 cents for the 1992 quarter.
