EX-BLUE CROSS CHIEF ALDEN E. FLORY DIES

Alden E. Flory, president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Virginia from 1970-80, died Thursday. He was 77.

Flory, a Richmond resident who helped organize the Golden Olympics in Virginia, died of a heart attack while racing his bicycle in the event, officials said. Flory, who was cycling along Colonial Parkway when he was stricken, was taken to Williamsburg Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, a nursing supervisor said.

Andy Crane, director of the sporting event for the state Department of Parks and Recreations, described Flory as an avid bicyclist who rode every morning. - Associated Press
