The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Thursday charged Peggy Jean Bishop, 29, of Gallimore Estates in the Plum Creek area of the county. She is accused of striking Myrna J. Clendenin, 43, with a car and then leaving the scene.
Bishop was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 12 in Montgomery County General District Court.
Motorists reported seeing a body on the side of the road about 5:30 a.m. Sunday. Clendenin was apparently walking east toward Christiansburg when she was struck.
Sheriff Ken Phipps said the investigation led to Bishop after her attorney, Max Jenkins, contacted officers and wanted to meet with them.
Felony hit and run carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and requires revocation of one's driver's license.
