FLOYD COUNTY MAN IS CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED 1ST-DEGREE MURDER

A Floyd County man has been charged with attempting to kill a neighbor when she tried to intervene as the man was fighting with his mother, authorities said Thursday.

Ervin L. Richardson, 52, of Route 1, Floyd, faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder of Suki Mahar Milani.

Richardson is accused of firing several shots from a shotgun at Milani Wednesday afternoon after the woman tried to intercede when Richardson was arguing and beating his mother, Louetta Richardson.

The shots were fired as the woman ran toward her house, authorities said.

Richardson and his mother live in the Shooting Creek area near the Franklin County line.

Thursday, Robert Spessard was appointed to represent Richardson. District Judge Ed Turner also ordered the defendant sent to Central State Hospital for a mental evaluation.
