OBIT-LAVENDER, BERTHA MAE GRUBB

LAVENDER, Bertha Mae Grubb, 87, of Salem, died Wednesday, June 2, 1993, in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was a Salem resident most of her life. Mrs. Lavender was a housewife and member of Bethel Baptist Church in Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ballard Lavender Sr. Survivors include a son, Joseph Ballard Lavender Jr., Logans Port, Ind.; a daughter, Elva L. King, King, N.C.; also surviving are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel by the Rev. R. Stuart Carlton. Burial will follow in the Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday night at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30. Arrangements by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem.
