OBIT-ALLEN, BUFORD HAVERLY
ALLEN, Buford Haverly, 87, of Blacksburg, died Wednesday, June 2, 1993, at
his home. He was born in Montgomery County on March 9, 1906, to the late
William and Henrietta Price Allen. Mr. Allen was in the coal and oil business
in Blacksburg for over fifty years, co-owner of Simpkins and Allen Coal and
Oil, and later sole owner of Allen Coal and Oil Corporation. He was a member
of Hunter's Masonic Lodge #156, A.F.&A.M., the Royal Arch Chapter #65, a
Shriner, and was a lifelong member of St. Michael Lutheran Church. Also
preceding him in death was six brothers, Archie K., Albert M., Jesse W.,
Claude, Gilbert, and Pearl R. Allen; and four sisters, Mamie Allen, Lillian
Elliott, Gertrude Shealor and Beulah Shealor. He is survived by a special lady
friend, Vicki Pio and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2
p.m. Saturday, June 5, at St. Michael Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jacob
Mayer officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery with Masonic
graveside rites. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime after 10 a.m.
