MORAL: DON'T PUT STUFF ATOP CAR

People leave items on the roof of their cars every day - cups of coffee, house keys, hats.

But a marriage license? On the day of the wedding?

It happened last weekend when Timothy and Denise Sneeringer drove from their ceremony at St. Andrew's Catholic Church to the Radisson Patrick Henry Hotel.

Lost along with their license were the church certificate, a folder of names and addresses, two official ceremony books, photographs and the official ordination papers of Deacon James G. Sneeringer, Timothy's grandfather, who also sermonized and officially witnessed the wedding.

"It was a dumb thing that I did," the elder Sneeringer said from his home in Harrisburg, Pa. "Everyone's done some dumb things and I'm no exception."

Sneeringer said he placed all of the papers in a plastic envelope. Then he took the envelope with him as he, his wife and the newlyweds drove together to the reception. They discovered the documents missing when they arrived at the hotel.

"I had put them on top of instead of in the car. We drove and walked the areas [between the church and the hotel] back and forth . . . but they could have blown over a bridge and landed in a coal car for all I know," Sneeringer said.

Fortunately the two ceremonial books were found, and the licenses have been replaced, but the deacon hopes to also find his ordination certificate and photographs.

Sneeringer is offering "at least" a $50 reward for return of his belongings.
