OBIT AKER, VANCE ALDEN
AKER, Vance Alden, 84, of Radford, passed away Thursday, June 3, 1993, in
Bluefield, Va. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and retired
recreation director of St. Alban's Hospital and the City of Radford. He was a
member of the Radford Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Essie Dickens Aker; parents, Rev. J. F. and Delana White Aker; a stepson, J.
B. White; a stepdaughter, Twila Orrison; and two brothers, Bruce and Frank
Aker. Survivors include, one sister, Mildred Aker of Richlands; two brothers,
Roger Aker of Bluefield, W.Va, and Stuart Aker of Raleigh, N.C.; stepmother,
Louise Wood Aker of Evington; stepdaughter-in-law, Fern White of Radford;
stepson-in-law, Byron Orrison, Hixon, Tenn.; three grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be
held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in
Radford with Rev. Joe Burton and Rev. Jim Cochran officiating. Interment will
follow in Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests that contributions be made to the Ministerial Scholarship Fund of
First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday
at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
