OBIT ATKINSON, RODNEY LYNN
ATKINSON, Rodney Lynn, 43 of Bluffton, S.C., formerly of Pulaski and
Roanoke, Va. died Friday morning in Jasper County, S.C. from injuries received
in an automobile accident. He was born in Pulaski on December 11, 1949, and
was the son of the late I.S. ("Pete") Atkinson Jr. He was also preceded in
death by a brother, Gerry J. Atkinson. He was a graduate of Milligan College
in Tennessee. Mr. Atkinson was a licensed nursing home administrator and was
employed by Hill-Haven Nursing Home, Savannah, Ga. He was a member of the
Virginia Health Care Association, the American Health Care Association, and
various other nursing home associations. He was a licensed F.A.A. pilot and
was a past leader for the Boy Scouts. Prior to moving to South Carolina, Mr.
Atkinson was employed by Carilion Health Care Systems, Burrell Continuing
Care, Roanoke, Va. He is survived by one daughter, Crystal Dawn Atkinson,
Dublin; one son, Rodney Brian Atkinson, Pulaski; mother, Irene Lineberry
Atkinson Seeley, Pulaski; brother and sister-in-law, David Wayne and Mary Dale
Atkinson, Pulaski; sister-in-law, Sybil S. Atkinson, Pulaski; nieces, Shannon
A. Atkinson, Kimberly R. Atkinson, Heather L. Atkinson and Sonya M. Atkinson
all of Pulaski; nephew, Aaron W. Atkinson, Pulaski; uncle and aunt, Bolling
and Frances Lineberry, Pulaski. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10
a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, Va. with the Rev. Stephen
Weston officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Cemetery, Galax, Va.
Visiting will be Sunday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, Va. where
the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the
family wishes that memorials be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements by
