INDIANS PLAN 500-MILE RUN FOR ENVIRONMENT

American Indian runners and at least one participant from Poland planned to make a 500-mile Run of the Ancestors starting Tuesday to encourage all people to take better care of the Earth.

The event coordinated by Indian activist Dennis Banks is the latest of several long-distance events organized by the volunteer group Sacred Run International.

The 30 runners ages 10 to 62 signed up for the event scheduled to take them over back roads and pass historic Indian sites from Covington, Ky., across the Ohio River from Cincinnati, through Kentucky, Indiana and ending Saturday in Cincinnati. - Associated Press
