NEIGHBOR CHARGED IN TRAILER HOME FIRE

A Franklin County woman was in jail Monday after being charged with arson and grand larceny in connection with a trailer home fire Thursday, authorities said.

Diane Andrews, 29, was charged Saturday in connection with a fire that damaged a trailer home a few lots away from hers in the Brown Trailer Court in Wirtz, Deputy Fire Marshall Ben Cook said.

After fire crews doused the fire, which caused $3,000-$4,000 in damage, and left with the home's owner and police, someone stole items from the trailer, Cook said.

Andrews has been charged with grand larceny in connection with the theft, Cook said. The property has been returned to its owner.

The fire apparently began underneath the trailer where the owner had stored some items, and spread to the bathroom and bedroom, Cook said.

No one was home when the fire occurred, and no one was injured, Cook said.

Authorities are trying to determine if a similar fire that broke out a week ago at the court is related, Cook said.

Andrews was being held in the Botetourt County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond because Franklin County does not have detention facilities for women. Authorities have not yet determined a motive, Cook said.
