2 KILLED AS PLANE CRASHES ON TAKEOFF

A small plane crashed Monday afternoon near the Manassas Municipal Airport, killing two people, authorities said.

The single-engine plane went down in the front yard of a house. No one in the house was injured.

Bob Fulton, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman in New York, said the plane never gained altitude as the Manassas-based pilot tried to take off.

The Beechcraft 24 was headed for Newport State Airport in Rhode Island, Fulton said. - Associated Press
