OBIT WOODS, JAMES P. JR.
WOODS, James P. Jr. 81, of Salem, died Monday, June 7, 1993, at his home.
He was born in Roanoke and had lived in Salem since 1950. He was a retired
principal at Bent Mountain School and also a retired farmer. He was a member
of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as a member of the Vestry and also
was treasurer of the church and for the Episcopal Diocese of the South Western
Va. He was a graduate of the Episcopal High School in Alexandria and continued
his education at the Unviversity of Va. Mr. Woods was also past president of
the Virginia Tennis Association and was an active player and promoter of
tennis throughout his life. He is preceded in death by his parents, Col. James
P. Woods Sr. and Susie M. Woods; and a sister, Elizabeth W. Denison. Survivors
include his wife, Kate Murray Woods; a son, James P. Woods III, Salem; a
sister, Kathryn W. Cobb, Roanoke; three grandchildren, Riley A. Sims, Salem,
Casey Krivor, Idaho; Michael Krivor, North Carolina; two nephews, Kathryn
Cobb, Massachusetts; Elizabeth D. Dixon, North Carolina. A memorial service
will be held Tuesday, June 7, noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rt.
Rev. A. Heath Light, and the Rev. Drs. Robert T. Copenhaver, and W. Melvin
Maxey officiating. Entombment will follow in the Woods Family Mausoleum at
Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul's
Episcopal Church at 42 East Main St., Salem, Va. 24153 or your favorite
