The Board of Supervisors voted Monday night to waive the normal $25-a-ton fee for dumping storm-related debris at the landfill in midcounty. The waiver is effective for 10 days and applies to county residents as well as the towns of Christiansburg and Blacksburg.
The county is grinding the smaller pieces of wood and brush into mulch and setting aside the larger pieces as fuel wood for the qualified needy.
If you want to haul some of that debris back home in the form of mulch for your flower or vegetable garden, you can, but it will cost you $15 a ton. A normal pickup-truck load of mulch usually costs about $10.
