OBIT CAMDEN, JOHN WILLIAM
CAMDEN, John William, 80, of Lexington, died Monday, June 7, 1993, at the
Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lexington. Mr. Camden was born in Lexington on
October 26, 1912, a son of the late Hubert Ruffner and Annie Laura Tolley
Camden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Tweety Camden. Mr.
Camden served in Company L, 330th Infantry, 83rd Division under George S.
Patton. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy, Northern France,
Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and
received a Purple Heart. Other medals received during his service were Good
Conduct Medal, Soldiers Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African
Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon and the Combat
Infantryman Badge. Mr. Camden is survived by a brother, Carlyle D. Camden,
Lexington; two sisters, Ruby G. Wilhelm, Goshen, C. Audrey Covert, Spring
Hill, Fla.; four nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be conducted
Thursday, June 10, 1993, 11 a.m. at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Lee
V. Ruckman officiating. Burial to follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery
beside his brother, who also served in World War II, with Military Rites on
V.F.W. Post 1499 and American Legion Post 126. The family will receive friends
from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
