OBIT UNDERWOOD, JOHN WILLARD
UNDERWOOD, John Willard, 75, of Martinsville, died Tuesday, June 8, 1993 in
the V.A. Medical Center, Salem. He was born March 10, 1918 in Patrick Co. to
the late John B. Underwood and Alice Belcher Underwood. He was retired from
E.I. DuPont Co. Mr. Underwood was a graduate of Meadows of Dan High School. He
served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theatre under
General George Patton. He was wounded in Germany and received the Purple
Heart. Surviving are his wife, Arlene Clifton Underwood; two daughters, Mrs.
Johnny (Jean) Mounce, Ridgeway, Mrs. Lonnie (Carol) Smith, Martinsville; four
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held
Thursday 11 a.m. in Roselawn Burial Park with Rev. John Carrier officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at McKee Funeral Home 7 to 8:30 p.m.
and other times at the home. Memorial may be made to V.A. Medical Center, 1970
Roanoke Blvd, Salem, Va. 24153 or Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church,
824-826 Starling Ave., Martinsville, Va. 24112.
