JUDGE CUTS HELMSLEY'S 4-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE

Check-out time is coming early for former hotel queen Leona Helmsley.

A federal judge trimmed Helmsley's four-year prison sentence for tax evasion to 30 months on Thursday. With time off for good behavior, Helmsley, 72, could be out of her Danbury, Conn., cell in January 1994. She will have served 21 months.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Griesa said he was moved to reduce her jail term when the U.S. Parole Commission twice turned down her bids for early release. - Associated Press
