WJJJ Radio and Claytor Lake State Park are sponsoring the activities.
"Families having fun and helping our environment through the lake cleanup is what this special day is all about," said Park Superintendent Richard Johnson. "We want everyone to come out and enjoy the lake, go fishing and pick up some litter while they're at it."
WJJJ will award prizes to participants bringing in marked "treasure bottles" from the lake along with trash. Participants also can take a free Pioneer Maid cruise.
Cash prizes and trophies will be given for the largest fish caught in each of five species.
First place in the adult division (from age 14 up) will be $50; the youth division (13 and under), $25.
Events start at 8 a.m. at the park gazebo. There is no registration fee, but participants must register before the tournament day. Registered contestants will get free parking and boat-launching from the Howe House ramp.
To register and for rules, can call WJJJ (382-4993) or write WJJJ Fishing Tournament, P.O. Drawer 30, Christiansburg, Va. 24073. For more information, call the park at 674-5492.
