HARRISONBURG - R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. plans a multimillion-dollar expansion of its book plant that will create more than 200 jobs.
The 250,000-square-foot expansion will increase the plant's capacity by about 50 percent over five years, said Richard Johnson, vice president and division manager.
R.R. Donnelley prints and binds paperback and hard-cover books at the Harrisonburg plant. Last year the plant produced 90 million books, Johnson said. Work on the expansion will begin next month, he said. - Associated Press
\ Shareholders OK NationsBank merger
BALTIMORE - Shareholders of MNC Financial Inc. overwhelmingly approved a merger with NationsBank Corp., the nation's fifth-largest banking company, MNC officials said Thursday.
About 67.5 million of MNC's 90 million shares, or 75 percent, were voted in favor of the merger, said Daniel Finney, a spokesman for Baltimore-based MNC.
MNC needed more than two-thirds of the vote for the $1.36 billion takeover to be approved.
"The merger is under review the next couple of months by the federal reserve board. Presumably by late September or early October the regulatory review will be completed and the transaction will be legally closed," Finney said.
The Maryland Alliance for Responsible Investment and the Virginia Coalition for Community Reinvestment have expressed concerns about community investment in letters sent June 3 to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
The Richmond branch of the Federal Reserve is reviewing NationsBank's request to buy MNC, parent of Maryland National Bank. The complaints will delay the takeover at least a month, the Fed said. - Associated Press
