20 YEARS OF YOUTH PROGRAM MARKED WITH JOYFUL NOISE

First Presbyterian Church in Pulaski has scheduled a gala reunion weekend today and Sunday to mark 20 years of the YOUTH CLUB/LOGOS program at the church. The Christian education program, which includes the Joyful Noise high school choir that tours each spring, was begun in 1972. Over the years about 350 young people have participated.

All members, former members and their guests are invited.

Alma Bennett, a former church member who helped organize the local Logos program, will speak at the reunion dinner tonight at the Lions Club building in Dublin. Entertainment will include slides and pictures of activities from the past two decades.

Sunday morning, the Rev. Dale Milligan, founder of the international Logos program, will be the guest speaker during morning worship at 10:30. The Joyful Noise choir, under the direction of Brenda Burrus, will lead the service of music.

Lunch will follow for all members of the congregation and guests.

There's a busy VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL with several area churches still registering. Here's a rundown:

At Gateway Baptist Church, 2196 Harding Road, Blacksburg, vacation Bible school for all ages runs Monday through Wednesday from 7:30-9 each evening. Call the church at 552-2184 for more information.

Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church will offer vacation Bible school Monday through Friday, 7-9 p.m. using the theme "Jesus Loves You Most of All." Call 382-8287 or 552-5070 for details.

Alleghany Church of Christ, 2060 N. Franklin St., Christiansburg, has declared itself a "Zoo Zone" for vacation Bible school classes starting June 20 at 7 p.m. at the church. The program is open to all people 2 years old or older. To register, call Porter Riner, 382-9039.

Gethsemane Baptist Church, 200 Preston St., Radford, will offer vacation Bible school for all ages June 21-25, 7-9 p.m. each day. A nursery and transportation are available. For more information, call 731-1160.

The Church of Christ, 1250 S. Franklin St., Christiansburg, will hold vacation Bible school June 21-25, 9:30-11:15 a.m. each day. Call the church at 382-3269 for details.

The Presbyterian Church of Radford, Grace Episcopal Church, Christ Lutheran Church and St. Jude Roman Catholic Church are joining forces to sponsor vacation church school sessions using the theme "Living in God's Creation." Classes for preschool through junior high students and for adults start June 27 at 5 p.m. and continue June 28 and 29, 6-8 p.m., and June 30, 6-8:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Radford on the corner of Fourth and Randolph streets.

Vacation Bible school at Havens Chapel United Methodist Church starts July 12 at 7:30 p.m. Call 651-4490 for details.

St. Paul United Methodist Church in Christiansburg will offer vacation Bible school July 19-23, 9-11:30 a.m. for ages 3 1/2 through sixth grade. The theme is "Celebration Park: Proclaiming Jesus Throughout the Year."

A BACCALAUREATE SERVICE for 1993 graduates of Shawsville High School will be held Sunday at White Memorial United Methodist Church at 6 p.m., instead of 7:30 p.m. as announced previously. A reception to honor the graduates will follow the service.

The Shawsville High School baccalaureate service will be sponsored by White Memorial United Methodist Church, Crockett Springs United Methodist Church, Big Spring Baptist Church, Moore's Chapel Baptist Church and the executive board of the Shawsville High School and Middle School Parent-Teacher-Student Association.

\ SUMMER SCHEDULES going into effect at several area churches:

Grace Episcopal Church, 210 Fourth St., Radford, holds Sunday services at 8 and 10 a.m. through August.

The Presbyterian Church of Radford, corner of Fourth and Randolph streets, has a church school gathering, with coffee or juice, fellowship, prayer and singing each Sunday at 9 a.m. Church school follows at 9:15 a.m. and offers the "Journey to Jerusalem" class for all ages and Bible study for adults. Worship is at 10 a.m. through August 29.

First Presbyterian Church, Pulaski, has summer worship at 10 a.m., for Sunday, June 13, when services will be at 10:30 a.m. Summer hours remain in effect through Aug. 29.

At Blacksburg Presbyterian Church on Church and Eakin streets, morning worship begins at 10, with fellowship and refreshments following the service. A nursery and extended session are available for youngsters up to age 5. Call 552-2504 for more information.

St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, 7318 Peppers Ferry Road, Fairlawn, offers one Mass at Sunday at 10 a.m. The church continues to offer Mass Saturday at 5:15 p.m.

Two morning worship services are on the summer schedule starting June 20 at Christiansburg Presbyterian Church, 107 W. Main St. There will be an 8:45 service in addition to the regular 10:55 service, with Sunday school at 9:45.

On the gospel music circuit this weekend:

\ THE SOUTHERN STATESMEN will be at the Christiansburg Pentecostal Holiness Church, corner of Third and Phlegar streets, tonight at 7.

There will be gospel singing at Midway Community Church tonight at 7, featuring THE VICTORY GOSPEL SINGERS.

\ SCHAEFFER MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH will celebrate its homecoming Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Ron Brown, pastor-elect of First Missionary Baptist Church, and the choir will lead the service.

\ CHRISTIANSBURG PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 107 W. Main St., will receive new members Sunday at its 10:55 a.m. worship service. A reception in the fellowship hall will follow at 12:15 p.m. Sunday school classes are at 9:45 a.m.

The youth group will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

At CENTRAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 803 Wadsworth St., Radford, Rose Sims will be the guest speaker Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service. Sims has taught at the university level for many years, has served as a school superintendent and is a conference evangelist.

She holds the Circuit Rider award for her work in promoting United Methodist church growth.

Charles Smith of Richmond will conduct revival services June 20-23 at ST. JOHN'S FELLOWSHIP, 710 Church St., behind the Cambria Post Office. Services June 20 are at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weekday services will be at 7:30 p.m.

The Victorians will sing at the June 20 evening service.

\ SHAWSVILLE CONGREGATIONAL HOLINESS CHURCH, Alleghany Spring Road, has Sunday School at 10 a.m. and worship services at 11. The church also has Sunday and Wednesday evening services at 7. The pastor is the Rev. John Smith.

\ THE REV. RICK ECKLUND of Floyd Parish United Methodist Charge will be ordained a deacon and probationary member of the Virginia Annual Conference June 21. Ecklund also will be reappointed to serve his fourth year as pastor of the charge, which includes Copper Hill, Havens Chapel, Huffville and Stonewall United Methodist churches.

Ecklund has been serving as a licensed local pastor of the United Methodist Church while he pursues a master's degree in divinity at Eastern Mennonite Seminary in Harrisonburg.
