BUCS LOSE WILD ONE

Frederick made six errors, but it was a mistake by Salem that gave the Keys a 7-6, 10-inning victory over the Bucs in Carolina League baseball Friday night.

Curtis Goodwin led off the 10th against Salem reliever Mark Mesewicz with a single. Goodwin stole second, and Feliciano Mercedes sacrificed him to third, bringing on the fourth Bucs pitcher, Kevin Rychel.

With Brad Seitzer at the plate, a pitch got away from Rychel and past catcher Angelo Encarnacion, allowing Goodwin to race home with the winning run.

Salem took advantage of the Keys' poor fielding to score two runs, one unearned, in the top of the ninth to force the extra inning.

In all, four of the game's 13 runs - three for the Bucs and one for Frederick - were unearned.

Marty Neff led the Salem offense, going 2-for-5 with two RBI. Mike Brown also went 2-for-5 and had the other RBI for the Bucs (27-35). Ken Bonifay went 2-for-4.

Goodwin, Mercedes, Seitzer and Kris Gresham each went 2-for-4 as the Keys (32-30) pounded out 12 hits.
