OBIT GUYNN, JAMES CARLIN
GUYNN, James Carlin, 80, of 306 Edgewood Drive in Hillsville, passed away
Friday morning, June 11, 1993, at the Twin County Community Hospital, Galax,
Va. He had been in declining health for a short time. He was president of
Guynn Hardware and Furniture Co., where he had made many friends. He attended
Woodlawn School and graduated in 1934, from Virginia Polotechnical University.
He had been a member of the Hillsville Lion's Club for 46 years and was a life
member of the Hillsville V.F.W. Post #1115. He served 5 years with the Army
Engineers, mostly in the South Pacific, during World War II. He attended the
First United Methodist Church. He was the youngest son of the late Crockett
and Lura Edwards Guynn. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one
sister, Gilman, Glendi and Garnett Guynn and Gladys Guynn Cox. He is survived
by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Bennett Guynn; and one daughter, Beth Guynn of the
home; one sister, Golda Guynn of Hillsville; two sisters-in-law, Jane Guynn of
Galax, and Virginia Bennett Armsworthy of High Point, N.C.; also two nieces
and one nephew. Funeral services will be held Sunday June 13, 1993, 2 p.m. at
First United Methodist Church in Hillsville, with the Rev. Nathan Malone
officiating. Interment will follow in the Worrell-Guynn Cemetery. He will be
placed in the church Saturday at 4 p.m. where the family will be receiving
friends from 7 to 9 p.m. The family says, flowers would be appreciated,
however, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of
Hillsville, or the Worrell-Guynn-Cemetery, in care of Golda Guynn, P.O. Box
152, Hillsville. Arrangements by Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, Va.
