The first syringe was discovered by an elderly couple Wednesday in Tacoma. The second was found Friday by a woman in Federal Way, a suburban city between Seattle and Tacoma.
The can opened Friday had been sealed six months before the other one, said Susan Herbert, a spokeswoman for Alpac Corp., the regional Pepsi bottler and distributor.
Initial tests found no chemical contamination in either can, said FDA district director Roger Lowell. He said the acidity of the soft drink would kill almost any bacteria or virus, including the AIDS virus. - Associated Press
