3 ROSES GAIN ALL-AMERICA HONORS

All-America Rose Selections Inc. has announced the three winners in its contest for 1994's new rose varieties.

Secret, a pink tea hybrid, is the offspring of Pristine and Friendship roses. Secret is a product of The Conard-Pyle Co.

Caribbean, an orange hybrid of Mercedes and an unnamed seedling, is introduced by Jackson & Perkins.

Midas Touch is a yellow hybrid of Brandy and Friesensohne. It also is introduced by Jackson & Perkins.

The roses completed a two-year test program. Each was planted in test gardens nationwide and evaluated by rose experts for two growing seasons.

Roses are scored for bud and flower form, vigor, hardiness, growth habit, disease resistance, foliage and fragrance.

The three winning roses will be available to gardeners in spring 1994. AARS is a nonprofit association for rose research and promotion. Its members produce more than 80 percent of the garden roses sold in the United States.
