LEXINGTON GOLFERS WIN FOUR-BALL

David Brogan and J.W. Entsminger of Lexington Country Club took control on the back nine Sunday en route to a two-stroke victory in the 28th annual Virginia State Golf Association Four-Ball Championship at Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg.

Brogan and Entsminger carded a 66 to finish with a 15-under-par 129 total for the two-round event. The 1991 champions took the lead for good over Richmond's David Partridge and Mark Lawrence with a two-putt birdie by Brogan on the ninth hole.

Pete and Stewart Brubaker, also playing out of Lexington, finished tied for 17th at 139 on the 6,886-yard course.

In other sports around the region:

In Lynchburg, former Virginia Tech standouts John Ramthun and Ed Butterworth were beaten in the men's doubles final Sunday at the Central Virginia Invitational Tennis Tournament.

Ramthun and Butterworth, now playing out of Richmond, lost 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) to second-seeded Bryan Jones and Jamie Hevron. The former Hokies were the top seeds in the USTA Mid-Atlantic Section event at Oakwood Country Club.
