`BOO' TO PAPER'S CONVENTION COVERAGE

WHAT REPUBLICAN Convention did your reporters attend (June 6 news article, "GOP picks Allen, Farris, Gilmore")? Clearly, not the one I did. There was no booing of moderate views. It was when the audience was told "women vote for women," and when the pro-life position was dismissed, that speakers were booed. If I, a thinking woman, am a "radical" for being offended by such nonsense, then so are most women I know.

No, contrary to the image of Nazis - drawn by a retired Republican committee leader in this paper - Farris supporters were the same folks I see in Roanoke at church, at the grocery store and at the library. And at this convention, they were being urged by Farris' staff to always remember to be gracious and charitable.

It makes me wonder about the accuracy of other reports I read. BARBARA JOHNSON ROANOKE
