SALEM VA'S PAST 12 MONTHS

Some of what has happened since spring 1992 at the Salem VA Medical Center:

Number of full-time equivalent positions increased from 1,509 to 1,643.

Full-time equivalent nursing positions increased from 436 to 520.

Outpatient visits in May 1992: 100,276. Number for same month this year: 107,064

Admissions in May 1992: 3,805. Number for same month this year: 4,299.

A $57 million clinical addition opened, named for former Director Hugh E. Davis.

Plans developed for an intergenerational day-care center. Will open in July.

Fencing installed around inner parameters of complex to prevent wandering patients from straying.

ITT donated night-vision goggles for use in patient searches.

New policy requires patients who are on any form of restriction to wear red armbands.
