William G. Lawson was in Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., with second- and third-degree burns to the face, chest and arms, a Galax police dispatcher said.
Lawson and Leland McMickle were soldering the heating-oil tank around 7 a.m. when it exploded, the dispatcher said. Both were taken to Twin County Community Hospital. McMickle later was released.
