As associate provost, Brooker-Gross will oversee undergraduate programs and issues, including the Honors Program, the University Academic Advising Center and the core curriculum. She also will supervise the soon-to-be created Center for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.
Brooker-Gross has served as head of the geography department at Tech since August 1990.
She brings 16 years of experience to her new job. She has developed and taught a special study on teaching for graduate assistants and participated in numerous task forces on improving the quality of undergraduate education.
She also has published research on topics ranging from 19th century geography to teaching about race, gender and class through geography.
Brooker-Gross received a bachelor's and master's degree in geography from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
She received a doctorate in geography from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
