The timing couldn't have been better, with Giants coach Dan Reeves upset that the 10-time All-Pro linebacker failed to attend this week's three-day minicamp.
Taylor, recovering from surgery to his right Achilles' tendon, did not work out Wednesday, but he met with Reeves for 15 minutes.
"Both came away from the meeting with a clearer understanding of where they were coming from," said Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon, adding that Reeves was unaware of Taylor's practice of missing minicamps.
Taylor's deal, which makes him the NFL's second-highest paid linebacker behind Kansas City's Derrick Thomas (four years, $12.25 million), calls for a $550,000 reporting bonus with yearly salaries of $2.25 million in 1993 and '94.
Reeves still wanted Taylor, 34, to participate in the workouts so the first-year Giants coach could gauge his progress.
