PINEHURST AWARDED U.S. OPEN FOR 1999

The U.S. Golf Association unveiled some long-range plans Wednesday, awarding the 1999 U.S. Open to the Pinehurst Country Club and the 2000 to Pebble Beach Golf Links.

It will be the first Open for North Carolina's Pinehurst and it will be played on the No. 2 course, which also is the site 1994 U.S. Senior Open. The Open at California's Pebble Beach will be the fourth. The site of the 1998 U.S. Open is expected to be announced later this summer. - Associated Press
