CHICAGO - Ron Carey, general president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, said Wednesday he had placed Chicago Local 705 under trustee control, citing evidence of corruption among local officials.
Carey said the union was seeking a federal court order to impose the trusteeship, after negotiations with the local for a cooperative transfer of authority were unsuccessful.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The United Mine Workers expanded its strike Wednesday to include seven mines in West Virginia and Kentucky, bringing to 14,000 the number of miners on strike in six states.
