ROWE EARNINGS

Rowe Furniture Corp., Arlington-based manufacturer with operations in Salem, on Thursday reported a 16 percent increase in sales and a 756 percent growth in net income for its second quarter, ended May 30.

Rowe said net shipments, the industry's equivalent of sales, were $20.9 million in the quarter, compared with $17.9 million a year earlier. Net income rose to $702,000, or 17 cents per share, from year-earlier $82,000, or 2 cents per share.

For its first half, Rowe said net shipments rose to $41.3 million over $34.7 million a year ago. Net income was $1.5 million, or 37 cents per share, compared with year-earlier $28,000, or 1 cent per share.
