RADFORD HAS LEAD AT NRVS

Paul Radford, who never has won a Late Model Stock championship in 41 years of auto racing, is well on his way to that goal as the season nears the halfway mark at New River Valley Speedway.

The Ferrum driver has a 60-point lead over Christiansburg's Ronnie Thomas going into Saturday night's 100-lap feature of the NASCAR-sanctioned Area Ford Dealers 200.

Johnny Rumley, former Mid-Atlantic champion, is eight points behind Thomas. Jeff Agnew, the 1992 track titlist, is four points behind Thomas.

The Limited class runs 35 laps and the Modified Mini, Mini and Pure Stock classes each have 25 laps on the .416-mile oval.

Gates open at 2 p.m., with practice at 4 p.m. Qualifying begins at 6:15 p.m., with the first green flag at 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults and $1 for children 10 and younger. Rain checks from Saturday's washed-out event will be honored.
