METHODISTS ANNOUNCE APPOINTMENTS

A former pastor of Dublin United Methodist Church, the Rev. Charles W. Lockerby, has been named superintendent of the Abingdon District in the Holston Conference of the denomination.

His appointment was among those announced Thursday at the closing session of the Annual Conference held at Lake Junaluska, N.C.

Lockerby served the Dublin congregation in the 1980s.

The Holston Conference administrative area takes in United Methodist congregations in Radford and the Southwest Virginia region west of the New River, as well as East Tennessee and a small portion of Georgia.

Another change involves the moving of the Rev. Kenneth Carraway from First Church of Galax to First Church in Knoxville, Tenn.

He will be succeeded on June 27 by the Rev. Kenneth Morris Perkins who is coming from First Church of Richlands.

Perkins, a native of Georgia, took his theological training at Asbury Seminary. Among his pastorates is Pennington Gap United Methodist. He and his wife, Joyce, have three daughters and three grandchildren.

These are other new assignments in the Wytheville District:

Bridle Creek Circuit, James R. Fain; Cedar Springs Circuit, Patricia Dover Edwards; Draper Circuit, Peggy Meade Long; Fairlawn-Bethel, John C. Anderson; Fries Circuit, Robert E. Billingsley; First of Independence, Brian T. Miller; Mount Olivet-Trinity, Fred Minnick; New River Circuit, Neil Jeffrey Long; and Pulaski Parish, Alvin H. Smith.

Among the new pastors in the Abingdon District supervised by Lockerby are:

Lebanon of Chilhowie, Robert Ralph Hendrix; Mountain View-Seven Mile Ford, Rita F. White; Damascus, Bennie E. Huguley Jr.; Emory-Smith Chapel, Kathie R. Wilson-Parker; Keywood, North Circuit, J. Robert Layell; Marion, East Circuit, Timothy W. Graham; associate at First of Marion, Pamela C. Rhodes; Marion, West Circuit, Ronald Terry Rhodes; Madam Russell Church of Saltville, Scott A. Robertson-Gouge.

In the Tazewell District covering Giles County William R. Perkins has been assigned to the Pearisburg Circuit.
