CURTAIN UP: The Greenbrier Valley Theatre in Lewisburg, W.Va., opens its 27th season tonight with ``The Pirates of Penzance,'' the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. The play will continue Saturday night, June 24-26 and 30 and July 1-3.
Other works set for this summer are ``The Boys Next Door,'' ``The Dining Room,'' ``Welcome to Four Way: The Town that Time Forgot,'' and, for children, ``Charlotte's Web.''

FOUR-FOOT TIME: Music in Motion, the annual horse and music extravaganza that leads to next week's Roanoke Valley Horse Show, will be Saturday night at the Salem Civic Center. Victoria Bond conducts the the orchestra while the gallant steeds put on their lively show.
The reception will begin at 6:30, the show itself at 8:30. Tickets are $35 apiece for the show and reception and $10 for the show by itself. Call 375-3004.
MUCH MUSIC: The Eastern Music Festival opens today and starts to hit its stride tomorrow in Greensboro, N.C. It continues through July 31 and will offer something daily, from master classes to picnics to chamber music and concerts by the Eastern Philharmonic Orchestra.
Performances will take place at Guilford College, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Barber Park in Greensboro and at High Point Theatre in High Point.

TELL ME A STORY: The Sedalia Center in Big Island will present a storytelling festival Saturday afternoon at 1:30 till about 10 that night. Gwynn Ramsey, Aransas Vacilando, Alan Hoal, Harold Black and Robert DeLong will tell the tales. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for people who are 15 and under. Call (804) 299-5080.
HOT HARMONIES: Ranch Romance will sing and play Sunday night at 8 in the bowl at Lime Kiln Arts in Lexington. The group made its debut on the Nashville Network in 1988 and has won favor with its honky-tonk, rockabilly and western swing performances.

JUMPING IN GILES: Pearisburg's Festival Around Town will be Saturday with barbecue, a band concert, live music, a distance run, and choral singing, plus children's activities of all kinds from 10 to noon.
There will be an art show, food sales, crafts and more.
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME: Members of the International Wild West Stuntmen Association will present a Wild West show today through Sunday at Crossroads Mall in Roanoke. Shootouts, fistfights and comedy will be parts of the program. Tonight at 7, the troupe will stage an audience participation comedy. Saturday at 2, people who fit costumes from ``Little House on the Prairie'' and other shows will be allowed to participate. Fittings begin at 11 that morning.
At 7 Saturday night, the cowboy ballad ``Johnny Ringo'' will be acted out, with explosives featured. And Sunday afternoon at 2, the finale will be Billy the Kid against Wyatt Earp in Dodge City.
It all takes place inside the mall, and it's all free. The 10-member troupe is from Arizona.
