ITT NAMES DEPARTMENT DIRECTORS

ITT Corp.'s Electro-Optical Products Division in Roanoke County has named EDWARD GRIFFIN vice president and director of engineering. Also, LARRY CURFISS has been named vice president and director of material and JIM FLANARY is vice president and director of manufacturing.

Griffin oversees all research and development efforts at ITT. He joined the company in January 1992 and played a key role in ITT's development and production of its new Night Mariner, a night-vision device for pleasure boaters and commercial fisherman, expected to be ready for sale this fall.

Curfiss supervises all purchasing, supplier relations, incoming inspection and production and inventory control. He has been with the company sine 1986.

Flanary, with ITT since 1988, oversees all production and manufacturing engineering aspects of the image intensifier tube and the night vision system.

\ CHARLES W. KOUNS IV has been named president of Finnegan & Agee Public Relations, which is based in Richmond with an office in Roanoke. Kouns will be responsible for management of existing accounts as well as development of new public relations business. He formerly worked as senior vice president of Martin Public Relations, a division of The Martin Agency.

\ SUSAN KARN has been promoted to executive vice president and BARBARA FULTZ has been named vice president of production and management services at Finnegan & Agee in Roanoke.

Karn will work as the agency's chief administrative and financial officer, responsible for the firm's administrative, operational and financial functions. She joined the company in 1987 as controller, was promoted to vice president of finance in 1988 and to senior vice president/chief financial officer in 1992.

Fultz will supervise the agency's internal and external traffic functions as well as print and broadcast production. An employee since 1978, she most recently worked as vice president of production services.

ARCHITECTURE

\ C. STEVE GARRETT has been appointed office manager at Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern. He specializes in the management of multidisciplinary teams engaged in the master planning and design of health-care projects. An employee since 1980, he formerly worked as vice president of the project management division of the firm.

HEALTH CARE

\ J. MARGARET O'BRIEN, GLENN O. THORNHILL JR., and DOUGLAS E. PIERCE have been named to the board of directors of Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley. O'Brien is president of Hollins College. Thornhill is president and chief executive officer of Maid Bess Corp. Dr. Pierce, co-founder of the Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP), is a pediatrician with Physicians to Children.

LAW

\ MELVIN L. HILL, former regional drug prosecutor, has entered private practice. He will practice criminal and family law and civil litigation. His office is in the Shenandoah Building in downtown Roanoke.

MANUFACTURING

\ SCOTT DeBOLT has been appointed international sales manager at Pulaski Furniture Corp. He will be responsible for foreign sales for the company's Craftique, Accentrics and Ridgeway Clocks lines, in addition to Pulaski Furniture.

The Roanoke Valley Association of Life Underwriters has elected the following officers: president, ROBERT A. WHITE, Virginia Regional Marketing; president-elect, ROBERT G. YOUNG, National Life of Vermont; first vice president, WILLIAM G. NORK III, The Principal Financial Group; second vice president, FRANCIS J. FOLEY; treasurer, JOSEPH I. GILKISON, Insurance Services; and national committee person, PATRICIA S. HALL, Allstate.

\ WILLIAM E. DRESSLER of Roanoke has been elected president-elect of the Virginia Association of Life Underwriters.
