ATHLETES GRADUATE AT A HIGH RATE TO BILL BRILL:

Hello . . . Bill Dooley doesn't live in Blacksburg anymore! There is no doubt that Virginia Tech is not proud of the many embarrassing problems Dooley caused the school. Apparently, you don't do your job as a reporter any better than Mr. Dooley did at making sure his athletes graduated.

From the "Sports Mailbag" of the Roanoke Times & World-News on June 5, Virginia Tech registrar Wanda Hankins Dean reported that, "Today, Virginia Tech athletes graduate at a higher rate - 70 percent - than the entire student body, 64 percent. Even more striking is that 73 percent of African-American athletes who entered in 1987 have completed their degrees."

I had hoped that when you left the Roanoke area, your obnoxiously biased reporting would leave with you. Obviously I was mistaken. I hope in the future you will get all of the facts before you once again slam the Virginia Tech athletic program. GERALD K. EBERT BLACKSBURG
