Harrison won the 100-lap Late Model Stock feature of the North American Racing 300 on Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway, and even he had trouble believing it.
Harrison was first at the start, and first at the finish, but he only led for about one lap in between. For most of the race he ran fourth. He became the sixth Late Model Stock driver to win at FCS this season.
"The last time I won a race here was in Street Stock when I was 15," said the 31-year-old Renick, W.Va., resident. "I'm ashamed to say it, but it's true."
Saturday night belonged to Harrison. Qualifying second, he started on the pole when Tony McGuire's Chevrolet was unable to answer the lineup call.
Ronnie Newman took the lead from Harrison 100 yards off the starting line and led until lap 65, when Dudley Lawhorn moved under Newman on the second turn. Lawhorn held the advantage until he collided with four-time winner Rick Sigmon while jockeying for position on the final lap.
Their crash allowed Harrison to cruise to the unlikely victory.
Lowe Smith and Dicky Wilson finished second and third, respectively. Todd Philpott placed fourth, and Stuart Taylor was fifth.
Steve Lynch and John Hall staged a battle in the Mini Stock opener, with Lynch prevailing. The victory was his fifth of the year, enabling Lynch to close to eight points behind Tommy Dean in the standings.
Hall and Dean finished second and third, respectively.
Phillip VanDerVeer must wish Kenny Wagner would continue his Late Model quest and stop running Street Stocks. VanDerVeer has seven Street Stock victories this season, all when Wagner hasn't competed.
Wagner made it 3-for-3 on Saturday night. VanDerVeer was second, and Lonnie Foley placed third.
Steve Kellam won the 30-lap Modified race, outrunning Rodney Cook (second) and George Spangler (third). The Modifieds will race every other week for the rest of the season.
Red Hartman won for the second consecutive week in the Pure Stock division. Leon Moles was second, and points leader and six-time winner R.W. Lawhorn was third.
Gorden Wingfield drove to his fifth victory in the Rookie competition. Stephanie Yates, 15, finished a career-best second. Steve Hurley closed fast to take third.
