ROANOKE NORTH STAYS UNBEATEN IN LEGION

Brian Hawkins hit a two-run homer and saved a victory for Chris Carr as Roanoke Post 3 North edged Tri-Counties 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in an American Legion baseball game at Carroll County High School.

Carr struck out 11 and walked one in eight innings for Post 3 North (2-0). Doug Mundy drove in the other run for Roanoke with a solo homer.

B.W. Hill went 2-for-5 for Tri-Counties (1-2).

In another American Legion game, Drew Bohanon went 4-for-6 with four RBI as Halifax County Post 8 pounded Roanoke Post 3 South 13-1 at Salem Municipal Stadium in the opener for both teams.

The game was stopped after eight innings because of the 10-run rule.

Lance Sneed went 2-for-2 with two RBI to help give Mike Lewis (1-0) the victory.

Brent Shorter provided the lone bright spot for Roanoke South, going 2-for-3.
