DAVIS WRONG ABOUT THE RIGHT GOP TICKET

REGARDING Paxton Davis' June 11 column ("GOP swing toward lunacy"):

He states that Republicans should try to enlighten and educate themselves to the realities of 20th century life. If this means killing babies, raising taxes and letting homosexuals have full reign, then I'm proud to be branded a lunatic as well as a Republican.

Strong morals, prayer and faith in God are what helped George Washington and Thomas Jefferson make America great. Why is that so hard for modern-day leaders to understand?

It is obvious that arrogant liberals of Virginia (including the Roanoke Times & World-News editors) are frightened with the convention's outcome. They realize that the GOP at last has a ticket that can beat Mary Sue and Company. George Allen, Mike Farris and Jim Gilmore are grass-roots conservatives who have a lot to offer Virginia. Please don't condemn them for their good morals.

As for Davis calling Oliver North a convicted perjurer, please remember that North bravely served his country in the Vietnam War and deserves our respect, an honor our president cannot claim. JACKIE S. BURKE CHRISTIANSBURG
