OBIT MARTIN, CHARLES CECIL SR.
MARTIN, Charles Cecil Sr., 56, of Pembroke, died Saturday, June 19, 1993,
in a Pearisburg hospital. Born in Pembroke, he was a son of Shuler Martin of
Pembroke, and the late Irene Gillespie Martin. He was a retired shovel
operator having worked at ACCO Stone of Blacksburg, Klotz Quarry at
Ripplemead, and Boxley Quarries at Rustburg and Skippers, Va. He loved stock
car racing and had two mini stock cars competing at New River Valley Speedway.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of thirty-four years,
Anna Travis Martin; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles ("Chuck") Martin
Jr., David J. and Terry K. Martin, Randy W. Martin; one daughter and
son-in-law, Cheryl and Jerry Workman, all of Pembroke; one brother and
sister-in-law, Larry J. and Brenda Martin of Pembroke; two sisters and
brother-in-law, Rachel Travis of Lynchburg, Beulah M. and Warren Gibson of
Pembroke; three grandchildren who were the joy of his life, Jeremy and Jamie
Workman and Kenny Martin; a special brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Lois
Burnett of Providence, N.C.; his mother-in-law, Sally Travis of Providence,
N.C. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Kendall
Funeral Home Chapel in Pembroke, with the Rev. James Walker, the Rev. Maude
Cherry, and the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Birchlawn
Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home
from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday.
