BUCS STRIKE EARLY TO BEAT BULLS

The Salem Buccaneers started the second half of the Carolina League baseball season with a bang Monday night.

Salem scored three times in the first inning and got perfect relief work in beating the Durham Bulls 7-2.

Salem's first three hitters - Tony Womack, Chance Sanford and Jon Farrell - combined for six hits, four runs and four RBI. Marty Neff added a double and two RBI for the Bucs, who struck for five runs in the first two innings off of Bulls' starter Jason Schmidt.

Salem starter Mariano De Los Santos pitched five innings, allowing five hits and two runs to earn the victory.

Kevin Rychel and Mark Mesewicz each pitched two scoreless and hitless innings to close out the win.
