7-ELEVEN CLERK STABBED IN ROBBERY

A convenience-store clerk was stabbed in the stomach during a robbery Monday morning.

The robbery of 7-Eleven on Bennington Street Southeast was the third reported to Roanoke police over the weekend.

The clerk, Scott Steven Vogt, told police that two men came into the store shortly after 2 a.m.

When Vogt walked behind the counter, one of the men followed him and stabbed him in the left lower part of his stomach.

The man then ordered Vogt to open the cash register. Vogt ran from the store and out into the parking lot, where he flagged down a passing motorist.

The robbers fled in a car with an undetermined amount of cash. Vogt was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery. He was in stable condition Monday.

No arrests had been made by Monday afternoon.

On Sunday night, two men came into the Main Street Deli on Main Street Southwest and demanded money.

After one of the men grabbed the clerk and shook him, they grabbed a container of money and fled.

Saturday morning about 1:30 a.m., Christopher L. Bryant, 19, was riding his bicycle on 13th Street Southwest when two men approached him.

One of the men lifted his shirt and showed Bryant a handgun tucked in the waistband while demanding money.

Bryant handed them his wallet which contained $30, police said.

The wallet later was recovered minus the money.
